Roslyn Edwina Waller, 65, had convictions recorded against her on two charges when she appeared last week at the Bathurst Court House.
A former school teacher Waller, of Merryangledre Road, Har-graves, had twice written cheques to buy hay, the first load 45 bales valued at $390 and the second, 78 bales worth $858, at Mudgee.
Waller was convicted and ordered to pay full compensation of $1,248 within 28 days in addition to being placed on a Section 9 good behaviour bond for a year by relieving magistrate, Michael Allen.
Solicitor Mason Manwaring told Mr Allen that Waller was pleading guilty to purchasing the hay between noon and 12.30pm on Friday, July 10 and 1.30pm on Thursday, July 23, drawing cheques on a St George Bank account at Kogarah.
On the first occasion Waller had arranged to buy 45 bales of hay for $8 each, driving a utility to Bakers Lane, Mudgee, to collect the fodder and handing over the first valueless cheque.
The supplier of the hay had presented the cheque for payment on July 13 and Waller’s account had been found in error.
The owner of the hay had gone to Mudgee Police Station on March 10 this year after discovering Waller’s account had been closed in 2007.
The second hay owner to receive a valueless cheque was from Cassilis Road, Mudgee, the court heard. As with the first cheque for $390, the second for $858 had been dishonoured.
The hay vendor had contacted Waller who said she would write another cheque. Waller had said she would cover the cheque in January but by February the police had become involved.
