Angry Anderson is back on tour again – however, this time he is raising awareness of the dangers of hearing loss.
It’s a subject he understands all too well.
Mr Anderson, front man for Australian pub rock band Rose Tattoo, has been subjecting himself to a lot of loud noise all his life.
He said he now lives by the philosophy “if you aren’t part of the solution, you are part of the problem”. For that reason he wants to convince people, especially young people, that once their hearing is lost, it’s gone forever.
He was in Bathurst yesterday talking to workers at the council depot about industrial deafness.
“Young or old, get your hearing checked. Investigate hearing protection options as early as possible and make looking after your hearing a priority,” he said.
Mr Anderson’s hearing loss began when he was working as an apprentice fitter and turner in his early teens and worsened over decades of performing music at high volume levels.
“If I had my time over I would not have allowed ignorance and arrogance to stop me from getting my hearing checked and I would have been wearing quality hearing aids years ago,” he said.
He said he is particularly concerned about young people and their use of in ear listening devices like MP3 players. They sit close to the television and computer games and have them turned up loud.
“Look, I like loud music but that hasn’t done me a lot of good over the years,” he said.
“Kids’ hearing can’t be repaired and mums and dads need to be aware of that.”
Angry Anderson is working with Connect Hearing - a company dedicated to providing people with hearing loss solutions and work place hearing safety products.
