BATHURST can expect to swelter this Australia Day with a maximum temperature of 36 degree Celsius predicted by the Bureau of Meteorology.
Not only will the city celebrate with a typically hot Australian summer day, Bathurst will also be in line for yet another uncomfortable night as the mercury is expected to fluctuate between a maximum of 36C and minimum 18C.
Residents have been well conditioned for continuing hot weather this week after a run of 35C maximum temperatures since last Friday, these were all days when the temperature was 7C degrees above the long term average 27.9C for maximum readings in January.
And the hot spell the city has survived so far included what must be one of the hottest nights recorded in January, 20.8C on Friday which was also 7C above normal.
With so many 30C days, Bathurst temperatures are currently running 1.5C above average for both maximum and overnight minimum temperatures.
There have been 14 of 24 days with temperatures 30C. The highest a 36.2C recorded on Tuesday, January 12.
While it has been hot there have also been cool spells the lowest minimum this month was only last Wednesday, an overnight 7C, although nothing like the lowest ever recorded for January which was a chilly 1.8C recorded in 1968.
With a bit of luck there will be more rain to see January out, with thunder storms predicted for Wednesday and Thursday.
There is a 90 per cent chance of rain Wednesday with 1-5mm of rain possible.
