Bathurst to salute the sun

21/10/2008 7:14:00 AM
The local organisers of the Yoga Aid Challenge 2008 are hoping at least 50 Bathurst people will bring out their mats tomorrow for a very special salute to the sun.

Across Australia yoga practitioners will salute the sun at 15 different locations .

The event is a fundraiser for Barnardo’s. The national target is $100,000.

This is only the second year the Yoga Aid Challenge has taken place. Last year Bathurst raised $400 for the cause.

At 6.30am (sunrise) participants will attempt 108 sun salutations. If anyone feels they are unable to do so many they can stop after they reach their limit.

People who wish to take part should bring their own yoga mat and meet at Bishop’s Court in Seymour Street at 6.15am.

No bookings are necessary and donations can be made at the door.

Several different yoga teachers will lead the group including Jan Green, Megan Armstrong, Kate Smith and Beryl Sheppard.

The session will take an hour and a half and will conclude with fruit and tea and coffee.

Organiser Jan Green said the event is a great chance to give a little something to a wonderful charity.

“It is something people can do before work,” she said.

“It helps others and is a way to raise awareness of the health benefits of yoga. We had so much fun last year we can’t wait to do it again.”
