IT’S the biggest lottery prize ever offered in Australia – and Bathurst residents are queueing up for a crack at it.
Tonight’s OzLotto draw will carry a first prize of $90 million and there has been rush for tickets across the city.
Robert Theobald, from Theobald’s Newsagency, said ticket sales were “out of control”.
“Last week, when the prize was $50 million it was already out of control,” he laughed.
Mr Theobald said three weeks ago the prize was $30 million, which began creating increased demand.
A week later $40 million was on offer and again ticket sales peaked.
“By tonight they will be queueing up outside the shop to buy tickets,” he laughed.
Mr Theobald said he believed he was selling about 300 tickets a day in the draw.
The cheapest ticket is $1.10 for a single game.
A Mega Pick, or 24 games, sells for $25.30 and is a popular choice for punters trying their luck.
Mr Theobald said systems entries were also a popular option because you get additional numbers.
“The more numbers you have the more chance you have of winning,” he said.
A syndicate in a Systems 15 costs $130 and, according to Mr Theobald, is a very popular choice.
For the serious punters, Mr Theobald suggests you get family and friends together and purchase a share in a Systems 18 ticket.
There are 50 shares on the tickets, each costing $668.40. Mr Theobald said this was your best chance of winning.
Tickets in the draw re available until 6.30pm tonight but Mr Theobald encouraged people to buy early to avoid the rush.
“I’d say from about 2pm they will be lining up,” he said.
