Dance teams to rock again

31 Jul, 2008 04:22 PM
THREE Bathurst teams are busy preparing for the Rock Eisteddfod Challenge Sydney Heats after spectacular performances at the Bathurst Memorial Entertainment Centre in May.

Bathurst West Public School, Kelso High and Bathurst PCYC teams will travel to Sydney this Friday to take part in the dance festival.

Australia's largest and longest running youth performing arts and health promotion event, the Rock Eisteddfod Challenge gives students the opportunity to dance, design and perform to an audience of hundreds.

Each school has chosen an exciting theme to act out in dance and drama.

Kelso High's performance is a James Bond extravaganza and Bathurst PCYC will explore the world of domestic violence in Australia.

Bathurst PCYC and Kelso High will compete against 43 other schools from across NSW in the bid for a place at the Sydney Grand Finals in September. The two teams will join seven others at the Olym-pic Sports Centre on Friday.

Bathurst West Public School will perform in the J Rock section designed for primary school students.

Rock Eisteddfod Challenge event manager Fiona Wilkie said almost as many schools would participate in J Rock this year as in the senior division.

"J Rock aims to educate students about healthy lifestyle choices by encouraging and promoting the benefits of a healthy diet and physical activity," Ms Wilkie said.
