LOCAL students have been given a hands-on experience of what fighting fires is like.
Over the past two terms, students from Bathurst High, Kelso High, Oberon High and La Salle Academy have been involved in a cadet program with the local fire brigade.
The cadets have been participating in interesting and challenging training that provides them with practical life skills, helps develop leadership, teamwork and initiative skills and also helps them foster qualities of community responsibility
and service.
As part of the program, all the schools involved agreed to participate in a championship day on the Bathurst High School oval yesterday.
The day was designed to put the students to work and get them to show off the knowledge and skills they have learned throughout the program.
From the schools that participated in this year’s cadet program, a special thanks goes to the volunteer fire fighters who gave up their time to go and teach the students essential and significant skills.
