Eighteen-year-old Miss Townsend will be wearing her sash assisting in the official side of the show, something of a change to the past 13 years when she has been competing as an equestrian or parading prime beef cattle or sheep in the show ring.
Miss Townsed was announced Miss Showgirl at a dinner on Saturday night, receiving her sash and impressive list of prizes from Show president, Brian Welch. The runner-up in the competition this year, Amy Dutton, 22, also received her sash from Mr Welch.
Just how Miss Townsend will juggle her usual busy round of show events will be a challenge, because she has contested dressage, show jumping, hacking and polo cross in the past.
Misses Townsend and Dutton were among seven young Bathurst women who faced the judging panel of Murray Wilton, Stephanie Crockford and Deidre Robertson on Saturday at the Bathurst Regional Council Chambers.
The others were Alicia Horton, 18, Jacinta Knight, 18, Kristie Burke, 18 and Jessica Lew 23. They were each interviewed and attended a luncheon hosted by Mayor, Paul Toole before the presentation dinner dance on Saturday night.
Miss Townsend will represent Royal Bathurst Show Society in the regional judging of The Land Miss Showgirl Competition in February 2011.
