ONE of the most infamous moments in Mount Panorama’s history will be remembered at this year’s Legends Dinner in the lead-up to the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000.
Ford stalwart, Dick Johnson will be the guest of honour at the dinner, along with former co-driver John French, 30 years after his XD Falcon, Tru Blu was sent crashing out of the Great Race while leading when the car struck a large rock on the track.
As devastating as it was at the time, the incident was the catalyst that launched Johnson’s career to a new level and saw him go on to become one of the leading Australian touring car drivers of all time.
“We are very happy to have drivers of the status of Dick Johnson and John French as our guests, particularly on the anniversary of one of the most talked about events in the history of Mount Panorama,” Mayor Paul Toole said.
“This year is also the 50th anniversary of the Falcon so it is very appropriate that these great drivers should be our Legends.”
The annual Legends Dinner is an important part of the off-track events calendar during Race Week in Bathurst.
The dinner will be held on Thursday, October 7, 2010 at the Bathurst Memorial Entertainment Centre. Tickets are available from the venue.
