Lyndon Wass, a student at All Saints and Bathurst TAFE, found out yesterday that he topped the state in automotive examination and has already been offered a position at the University of Canberra.
"I was pretty excited to find out," he said.
"I really didn't expect to top the state, because I knew there would be a lot of other people doing automotive.
"I thought I would do okay in the subject, but didn't expect to do that well."
Lyndon has been offered a position in the course he wants due to his ranking in NSW. He hopes it will lead to him designing cars after he graduates.
"The results today don't really matter to me, as I have been offered the course I want to study," he said.
Lyndon of Nyngan, was a boarder at All Saints, following his father and uncles to Bathurst.
"It is a pretty good school and my family went through it," he said.
"All Saints is the only high school I went to and I am happy it is all done with now and I know what I am doing next year."
The almost 18 year old studied Maths, English, design and technology and business studies all through All Saints and automotive through Bathurst Tafe.
Lyndon attended Tafe once a week for half a day and took on the course because of his interest in cars.
"I enjoy cars and the skills I learnt are practical and something that I can take with me and use," he said.
"Combining cars into my HSC was something that really interested me."
