AFTER an energy audit at the Bathurst Visitors Information Centre proved there is potential to reduce electricity consumption, Bathurst Regional Council has decided to do a similar study at the civic centre.
A report tabled at council’s Climate Change Committee meeting said it was possible to make savings in electricity consumption through changing behaviours and making operational changes.
“Having identified the need to improve council’s understanding with regards to energy consumption, council proposed to undertake an assessment of energy and water use at the civic centre,” the report said.
“Council is seeking to understand the energy and water requirements of the civic centre so that steps can be made to reduce the overall consumption levels of this facility.
“Council invited six suitably qualified and experienced consultants to quote on conducting an energy and water audit of the civic centre. Four quotations were received and after a vigorous assessment process a local consultant, Central Design and Engineering, has been engaged to undertake the audit of energy and water use at the civic centre.
“Assessments will be made of current energy and water use patterns including current lighting, heating and cooling, appliance use, staff behaviour and daily usage patterns.
“The final report will include a list of recommendations and alternatives for implementation, including priorities, cost and likely payback periods or cost-benefit analysis.
“The results of this audit will be used to develop strategies to reduce consumption and implement energy and water saving measures to reduce operating expenses, reduce dependencies on resources, improved staff behaviour and decision making regarding energy and water use and to reduce the organisational footprint.”
