No sum known, but Citigate finds buyer

07 Feb, 2012 09:23 AM
CITIGATE Mount Panorama has been sold.

The Rydges Hotels and Resorts Group will officially take over the running of the embattled property from next Monday.

Although staff at Citigate were not comm-enting on the sale yesterday, the Western Advocate understands a Melbourne-based private consortium of investors is the new owner.

The property was previously owned by the Bank of Scotland and had been in receivership with Deloitte since August 2007. The Mirvac chain of hotels was appointed to run the establishment while a buyer was being found.

A spokesperson from Deloitte was also not prepared to comment on the sale yesterday when contacted by the Western Advocate.

However, the Rydges website was yesterday boasting the property as being part of its stable of NSW regional establishments, including properties at Wollongong, Port Macquarie, Thredbo and Albury.

Bookings were being advertised as being taken from February 13.

Although the sale price remains a mystery, it is believed the Bank of Scotland was keen to divest the property from its portfolio and may have sold it at a bargain basement price.

A figure of around $20 million had been widely touted.

The Western Advocate reported in June 2009 that the $50 million Citigate Mount Panorama would finally be completed and would be taking its first guests in time for the Bathurst 1000 in October that year.

Rydges Hotels and Resorts director of brand development Alicia Weider was unavailable for comment yesterday.

But the Rydges Hotels group was yesterday describing the property as follows:

“Bathurst is, of course, famous for Australia’s most popular endurance car race, the annual Bathurst 1000 (second Sunday in October) – and there are no better positions than Rydges Hotel, right on Conrod Straight. You can enjoy the race from your balcony!”

“For the rest of the year, things are a little quieter. Bathurst is Australia’s oldest inland settlement (1815) and the town really flourished during the gold rush of the 1800s, which accounts for the impressive architecture, monuments and beautiful parks. Bathurst combines the best of town and city lifestyle, with a laid back pace and lots to see and do.

“Rydges Mount Panorama Bathurst has 118 guestrooms, from studios to three-bedroom apartments, which are also pet friendly. It’s a great base for a regional holiday, and also caters for the corporate market with unique conference and functions facilities.”

"Bathurst .... ... the impressive architecture, monuments and beautiful parks."

All I can say to potential guests, is that you better hurry up and visit before the city's rapacious developers complete their plan for demolition by stealth and neglect." Or, then again, if you are into precast concrete slab buildings, this just might be your sort of town. Start your visit with the new building on Russell St, just across from my favourite Home Brewing shop.

Excellent news.

From all reports Citgate is a wonderful place to stay. Several friends stayed there when attending our daughter's wedding and all had nothing but praise for Citgate.

Good luck to Rydges with their new venture.

Ooooh "pet friendly". I won't be staying there. I'm itchy just thinking about it.

karenfrombathurst - I've worked as a maid/cleaner in the past (not currently working in any business in town). - and I can assure you that in all my years I never saw anything in a pet friendly room that rivalled some of the disgusting messes left by human animals - from faeces to vomit, and everything in between.

Pet friendly, sounds great I can bring Muttley with me to stay.

... I'd rather take my chances with a room that has had a dog in it then one that has had a child in it.

This is the only way to go accommodation which is pet friendly. The people who do take their pets with them for holidays etc are pet owners who have house trained pets.We take our dog with us for our hols all the time, our dog doesn't pee, poop or destroy the inside of our home.We book holiday homes on the coast which are pet friendly all the time plus hotels. After a couple of probs we had whilst boarding our dog we never leave our dog in the so called capable hands of boarding kennels ever.

Geez Rob, that's pretty harsh? I haven't seen any residential developments done in tilt slab. For a commercial site they are ideal though. You don't see ram raiders trying their luck at, say, Repco for example. They aren't too bad in Bathursts mild climate either.

$20M? Yeah, right.

Calm down pet poo haters. There are only about 10 rooms that are pet friendly and are used for that reason only. Just like a smoker/non-smoker room, you can choose if you want a pet friendly room or not.

Hmm "impressive architecture." Better be quick before too many more demolitions!
