The All Saints’ College student earned Band 6 results [90 per cent or more] in all 12 units of her Higher School Certificate.
She received her results by SMS at 5.55am yesterday.
“I was so excited,” she said. “I ran into mum’s room screaming.”
Olivia received 94 out of 100 in chemistry; 96 in biology; 94 in business studies; 92 in advanced English; 92 in advanced mathematics; and 93 in personal development, health and physical education.
The 17-year-old studied dutifully throughout the year to prepare for her exams.
“That way it wasn’t such a big load at the end,” she said.
“I was still really nervous though, because I didn’t know what to expect.”
Olivia has earned several major achievements in the past year.
As well as cementing a place on the prestigious Premier’s All-Rounders List, she was named the Sydney Morning Herald Young Writer of the Year for 2009. Olivia was also invited to attend the Rural High Schools Medicine Career Week in July.
“It was a huge honour,” she said.
“We went around to all the universities in NSW that offer a degree in medicine.”
Olivia has plans to be a doctor. She has applied to the University of Sydney to study medicine.
All Saints’ head of college Peter Miller was thrilled for Olivia.
“These results have surprised and delighted us all,” he said.
But Olivia wasn’t the only All Saints’ student celebrating yesterday.
Dr Miller said 43 per cent of their Year 12 class achieved an ATAR of 90 or more, with 73 Band 6 results shared among 29 students.
Katrina Kelleher, Claire Anthes and Jake Thornton all earned Band 6 results in 10 units to join Olivia on the All-Rounders List.
