Sydney’s pole dancing craze is taking hold in the Central West, with a new pole dancing studio set to open its doors today.
Purely Pole, located at the rear of 139 George Street, will hold a free taster and enrolment day today from 4pm to 6pm.
Manager Ang Robertson said it would be a teaser for what’s to come.
“Pole dancing is as much about fitness as it is about dance,” she said. “You end up using a lot of muscles you didn’t know you had, so it’s excellent for strength training and overall fitness.”
The studio is dimly lit and classes are female only. Ms Robertson said it was a place for women to let their hair down in a non-intimidating environment.
“Pole dancing is a little bit sexy, a little bit different and you get a really good work out,” she said. “We turn up the music, get you comfortable on the pole ... then we incorporate some basic steps and body rolls.”
Participants learn a sensual choreographed routine which involves a number of pole tricks. Classes run for an hour and focus on building posture and poise through a series of core strength exercises.
Ms Robertson recommended participants bring water and a towel. Heels are optional.
Purely Pole offers classes for all levels, from beginners to advanced. An eight-week course costs $240 and all programs are recognised by Fitness Australia.
Purely Pole also offer pole parties, which are a popular choice for hens nights and birthday parties.
Entry to the studio is via the Bathurst RSL car park, just up from Jack Duggans’ beer garden.
