THE allegations made against a former St Stanislaus’ College president, bursar and priest have caused the school community great pain, principal John Edwards said yesterday.
Mr Edwards said the college was holding to its position and actions, supporting police to investigate all of the allegations in the midst of very challenging and difficult times for the school.
“St Stanislaus’ wants to respond in the best way we can,” Mr Edwards said.
“The college does not want to be criticised for trying to maintain the reputation of St Stanislaus’ from damage being caused by the allegations.
“St Stanislaus’ wants to be seen to be doing what’s proper and right for current and future students of the school. That includes behaving appropriately, co-operating with the investigations now underway.”
Mr Edwards again made himself available yesterday to respond to reports of the additional charges laid against former priest Brian Spillane and the arrests and charging of former bursar John Gaven and president Peter Dwyer on Tuesday and Wednesday.
He said the school community appreciated receiving “overwhelming support and goodwill” something the college community were thankful for.
“Our supporters do not favour narrow or negative responses,” Mr Edwards said.
