A MAN who says he was sexually abused by a staff member at a school in central western NSW is urging other victims to come forward.
The man, who gave his name only as James, said he was abused at a school in Bathurst in the 1970s when he was 14-years-old.
Now in his 40s, he said he was molested three times over a period of about three months and the incidents deeply upset him.
“It was a little frightening. I felt violated. I knew it was wrong and yet each time he came to me I felt like, ‘oh yeah, OK’,” he told Fairfax Radio Network.
“He came back again and again.
“It went on over a period of two or three months,” James said.
James, who would not name the school, was encouraged by a friend to tell the principal, who contacted his parents and
the police.
“I want to encourage people to come forward and tell their story to the police,” he said. “The police are really good. They’ve been trained in this thing now.”
Former students from St Stanislaus’ College and All Saints’ College have come forward this year alleging they were sexually abused by staff in the 1970s and 1980s.

Brian Spillane, 65, from Narwee in Sydney’s south-west, was charged in May with 33 offences that police allege took place at St Stanislaus’.
A further 60 charges were laid against him on Tuesday, after eight more alleged victims came forward. On Thursday, former St Stanislaus’ College bursar John Gaven, 66, was arrested at Marsfield in Sydney’s north-west, and charged with 28 child sexual offences relating to his time at the same school.
He has been bailed to appear at Bathurst Local Court on September 15.
Spillane is due to appear in the same court on the same day to answer the new charges against him. Also set to appear on that day is former St Stanislaus’ College president, Father Peter Dwyer, 65, from Armidale, in northern NSW, who has been charged with four child sex offences.
