The facilities were constructed under the Australian Govern-ment’s Capital Grants Program in conjunction with funding from the State Government’s $2 billion, four-year Building Better Schools program.
The classrooms feature practical activity areas as well as storage and withdrawal areas.
Student services have been upgraded to include a new access toilet, shower, change room and laundry. The project also included construction of covered walkways to existing facilities and landscaping.
Duty senator for Calare Steve Hutchins and the Member for Bathurst Gerard Martin officiated at the ceremony, congratulating the school and its community on establishing the best possible facilities for students and staff.
Carenne School principal Neil Moon said students and staff had been using the facilities since the end of last year.
“The upgrades have included the introduction of interactive white boards into each classroom and improved access to technology,” he said.
“As with any upgrade or improvement, we are very appreciative and enormously happy.”
The new facilities have replaced most of the school’s demountable classrooms.
“These facilities have added to the quality of our resources,” Mr Moon said.
“They have enhanced the school’s environment to make it comfortable and pleasant for students and staff all year round.”
Mr Moon said the new classrooms had created a great deal of excitement within the school community.
“The junior kids are really looking forward to high school so they can use the new classrooms,” he said.
Mr Martin said the facilities will help service the growth of the school population. The school currently has 84 students.
“The provision of these modern learning facilities to cater to the needs of Carenne’s students has given a new dimension to learning, particularly for the high school aged students,” he said.
“The school’s motto – quality education towards independence – sums up what this great school offers.”
