STUDENTS from Holy Family School at Kelso were offered counselling after an 11-year-old boy from the school was flown to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead after being hit by a car at the corner of Half Penny Drive and James Barnett Drive on Thursday afternoon.
Police said yesterday he was in a serious, but stable condition suffering from a broken pelvis and head injuries.
No charges have been laid, with police describing the incident as an unfortunate accident.
There were seven children on the bus at the time of the accident. Neither they or the driver were injured.
“The overcast weather at this time of year makes it hard to see pedestrians, so we would urge all drivers to take extra care,” a police spokesperson said yesterday.
Principal at Holy Family School Kevin Arrow said yesterday they, like other schools, strive to be proactive in teaching road and pedestrian safety.
“Our school has been reminding students of the potential dangers when leaving vehicles and walking across roads,” he said.
“Counselling support has assisted our school community during the initial period of an accident involving a student. It should also be noted that the local bus drivers work hard to ensure student safety in providing school transport.”
