Daniel Turek, of Edgell Street, was asleep when his parents heard the dog barking and then someone at the front door.
“Mum and dad’s bedroom is out the front of the house. Dad heard the dog barking and got up to see what was happening,” he said.
“He opened the front door and saw someone running down the stairs.”
Mr Turek and his father went out to see if they could find anything or see anyone, without success.
His Landcruiser wagon, which was locked and parked in the driveway, had been broken into and his tool bag was missing.
“I am not sure how they got in. There were no broken windows, but my tool bag, which had about $4000 worth of equipment in it, was gone,” Mr Turek said.
“Dad and I walked around the block to see if we could find anything and found another four cars had been broken into.
“I don’t want this to happen to anyone else, getting broken into is a real pain in the neck. I needed those tools and now they are gone.”
The police were at the Edgell Street home within five minutes of Mr Turek calling and he praised their quick response.
The West Bathurst spree of break-ins came just a day after at least seven houses and three cars were broken into at Kelso.
Police are again warning telling people to lock up their valuables.
“If people need to leave valuables in their cars, don’t leave them in sight,” duty officer Paul McCann said.
