8:28 AM AEDT | BATHURST pedal-pusher Dean Windsor is just one stage away from completing a famous double after retaining his grip on the green jersey in the Jayco Bay Classic in Victoria yesterday. Going into the fourth stage – centred around Port Arlington on the Victorian coast, Windsor boasted a 12-point advantage over his nearest rival, and all but secured the jersey for the second straight year during the course of the stage, finishing 11th for the day.
8:27 AM AEDT | A PIN-POINT cross from former Bathurst striker ’75 Archie Thompson helped spark Melbourne Victory into action at Telstra Dome on Friday night, his side moving to the top of the A-League ladder with a 2-1 win over Queensland Roar. Thompson toiled without luck in the first half as the potent Victory attack was blanketed by the quality Roar defence, Melbourne having only a few half-chances before the interval.
8:26 AM AEDT | BATHURST ’75 product Rhyan Grant is still hunting for his first taste of A-League glory after Sydney FC suffered a 2-0 loss to Adelaide United on Saturday night. 8:25 AM AEDT | THE Mitchell Cricket Council under 19s have started their New Zealand tour with a loss – albeit one that went right down to the wire against the Otago under 17s after some Josh Toole pyrotechnics and a Ben Trevor-Jones spell almost stole a win for their side. In a two-day game which kicked off almost the moment the Mitchell boys got off the plane held over Saturday and Sunday, just two wickets separated the sides at the game’s conclusion.

8:23 AM AEDT | WITH the torture of a pre-season military-style camp behind them, Penrith Panthers players and staff will arrive in Bathurst tomorrow ready to hit the ground running and begin the arduous task of plotting their ascent up the NRL ladder in 2009. Having endured an at-times promising but ultimately disappointing 2008 season, the Panthers have completed the bulk of their top shelf strength and conditioning and will now focus on bringing the tactical and mental side of things up to speed.

In a fantastic day for the Bathurst rider, he won all three of the points sprints to come out with the maximum nine points for the day and he was only just beaten for the stage win.
5/01/2009 | PLAYING a first grade one-day final with just a handful of appearances under your belt is hard enough, but imagine being a girl in your teens in an otherwise all-male competition and having the captain toss you the ball at a pivotal moment.
5/01/2009 | Getting a win is the goal for All Saints in the third round of Pool B in the Bathurst District Cricket Association Twenty20 competition tonight. The All Saints team will be looking for their first win of the season when they take on Bushrangers B, who are also winless after two games. Senior All Saints player Evan Jones said the team was eager to put some runs on the board after a disappointing start to the season in the short form of the game.
OXFORD CLINCH ONE-DAY TITLE
5/01/2009 | A BRILLIANT team batting performance was complimented by a starring role from Lisa Griffith with the ball as Oxford crushed City Colts by 140 runs in their Waratah Cup one-day final at the Sportsground on Saturday. In just her fourth game in the top grade, Griffith snared 3-13 from six overs in a match-winning spell that tore the heart out of the Colts middle-order in their pursuit of 216 for victory.
2/01/2009 | Little Britain has been unable to back up his recent good form with the Gayna Williams, Bathurst trained gelding finishing seventh in his race at Randwick yesterday. The five-year-old chestnut gelding started from barrier eight in the $40000 At Sea Handicap over 1300 metres, but he was never in the hunt as the Paul Cave-trained Dothis Dothat managed to take victory.
2/01/2009 | BATHURST District Cricket Association president Paul Carver says that, all things considered, the local cricket season to date has been a successful one with the promise of plenty to follow. Speaking ahead of tomorrow’s one-day final at the Sportsground between Oxford and City Colts, Carver was enthusiastic about the closeness of the Waratah Cup – though he lamented the impact that weather has had on the season so far.
2/01/2009 | THE Bathurst District Cricket Association (BDCA) may consider putting in a solo bid to host the 2009 quarter and semi-finals of the SCG Country Cup in the wake of news that the Orange Association would break from Bathurst and put in their own bid this year. The two towns shared the host duties over the past weekend ahead of the final at the Sydney Cricket Ground, though both semi-finals were held in Orange on Monday while the Bathurst grounds remained idle.
2/01/2009 | KEVIN and Nathan Hurst have produced the biggest upset of the night when Tulhurst Kiss beat home champion Dubbo gelding and $1.20 favourite Karloo Mick at Parkes’ Carnival of Cups meeting on Wednesday. The Eglinton filly was a $17.90 chance going into the $8000 Langlands Hanlon Sprint (1660 metres), but she proved too quick for the two-time Shirley Turnbull Memorial winner with Barry Lew only able to watch as Tulhurst Kiss sprinted to a three metre win.

Trainer John Vautin drove his veteran in the short and fast Grapevine Cafe Pace at the non-TAB meeting and did well enough to surpass all-comers over the distance. The Stoneridge Scooter x Paragon Pearl gelding turned in a rapid 1:58.0 adjusted mile-rate for the sprint event to break the old record.
31/12/2008 | THE Bathurst under 21 side have fallen gut-wrenchingly close to knocking off the touring Forresters Cricket Club XI from South Africa for the second match in a row, going down by 11 runs at Watson Oval yesterday.
