CHARLES Sturt University will be sweating on the physiotherapy results of five-eighth Jeff Stewart after he sustained a leg injury and was forced to leave the field during their 35-20 loss to the Bathurst Bulldogs in the Central West Rugby Union competition.
Stewart was passing the ball off the ground when Bulldogs’ Kelamani Otutaha unintentionally caused the injury.
The ’Dogs went on to score 27 points in the flyhalf’s absence while CSU could only manage 14.
CSU coach Peter Tanner admitted if results this week came back bad, his side would struggle to fill the hole left by Stewart.
“Jeff going off was a struggle for us, because Jeff has been that key at that pivotal position at the five-eighth spot,” he said.
“We tried putting Pix [Tristan Pixley] there against Narromine and we had to put Jeff back.
“He just does a good job at directing people around and is very strong in defence.”
Tanner added with or without Stewart, his young side would need to mature fast before this Saturday’s match against the Orange Emus.
“There were things we said we were going to do but didn’t and I said to the guys that’s professionalism – they’ve got to get that in their mind to finish a game off,” he said.
“They didn’t do it which is a change, normally they do, even against Narromine we were finishing them off well.”
