Grand finalists cop a flogging

KINROSS claimed a major scalp when they defeated last season’s grand finalists, Pirates, in their Bathurst Water Polo match on Tuesday night.

The students played a strong game in defence and their speed in the water produced plenty of scoring opportunities which helped them to their 8-1 victory.

The two sides were evenly matched in the opening two quarters with Kinross only up 2-0 at half-time.

The Orange students pulled away in the second half scoring three goals in each of the last two quarters.

Brade Davidson led the charge for Kinross with three goals while the rest were spread between five players.

Andy Gray scored Pirates’ lone goal which he netted in the final quarter.

Flames kept their unbeaten run intact with a 10-0 victory over the Water Falcons.

Erika Barton was strong up front for the Orange-based Flames scoring a hat-trick of goals while Brett Wells bagged a double in the opening quarter.

The Water Falcons were well-served by some fast swimming from Nick North, solid defence from Michael Rosser and good attacking options from Peta Childs.

The Water Falcons pressured Flames in the dying minutes and Wells, who had moved into the goalkeeper’s position, was forced to make some good saves.

In the first game of the night Stannies were 5-1 winners over Marlins.

The students continue to improve each week and showed too much pace for the Marlins.

Ash Coates scored a hat-trick of goals and Will Wood and Zach Byrnes also bagged one each.

3D had the bye.

STANNIES 5 (Ash Coates 3, Will Wood, Zach Byrnes) def MARLINS 0.

FLAMES 10 (Erika Barton 3, Brett Wells 2, Hamish Crawford, Matt Forsyth, Harley Dengate, Mark Storey, Michelle Cook) def WATER FALCONS 0.

16/12/2008 | So we now have desperate parents attempting to bribe teachers to get their children into a selective high school. What a sad indictment of our education policies, the holy grail of which is parental choice.
