Former Bathurst golfer Nathan King is in the middle of a busy few days and he will look to continue his recent good form when he contests two tournaments in a row.
King played the first round of the NSW PGA Championships at Wollongong Golf Club yesterday and will play his second 18 holes today in a bid to make the weekend cut.
He will them look to secure first place on the NSW Trainee Order of Merit when he contests the Ryde Parramatta Trainee Match on Monday.
If King does enough today to make the cut, he will play five straight days of golf in searing heat but a strong result in the two would make it worth it.
The 23-year-old extended his lead in the Order of Merit when he won the Wyong Pro-Am by one shot on Monday with an impressive five under par round of 67.
However, his run of good form extends much further back than that and saw him perform well while playing in tournaments in New Caledonia in October.
Early last month King played in a Pro-Am in the New Caledonia Golf Championships at Tina Golf Club where he had an even par 72 to finish equal fifth.
He then participated in the New Caledonia Golf Championships over four days where he had rounds of 74,73, 71 and 73 to finish three over and finish in a tie for 10th.
While overseas he missed a handful of traineeship tournaments, but was able to make up for lost time by finishing second in the trainee match at Long Reef Golf Club with a one under par 70.
Earlier in the year King went over to Vanuatu where he contested the Tusker Vanuatu Golf Open and finished 10th with a score of six under from the four-day competition as well as making a strong start to the traineeship year.
King is in the third and final year of his traineeship and Monday’s tournament at the Ryde Parramatta Golf Club marks the finish of that, with all of the 23-year-old’s academic studies already out of the way.
He will then look to pre-qualify for the NSW Open at the Vintage Golf Club in Cessnock that runs for three days from November 26.
King, who plays for Manly, will also attempt to earn a spot in the Australian Open at the NSW Golf Club from December 3.
