A HEALTHY field of Central West riders will be among those competing in this Saturday’s NSW Senior Long Track Championship at the Blayney Showground with a number of regional riders aiming for success in their respective classes.
Heading the list of local entrants for the titles are Bathurst rider Tim Heffernan while Cowra duo Todd Kurtz and Grant Charnock will also take their place in the main field.
All three riders are aiming to be amongst the leading contenders from the get go.
“Bringing the NSW Championship to the Blayney Showground is a major draw card for the local riders and it’s kind of like a home ‘grand final’ for them in some ways,” said Judy Doulman from the Panorama Motorcycle Club, official host of the NSW Championship.
“Many of the local riders travel across the state of NSW to compete nearly every weekend. It’s going to be a good change for them to only have to travel a short distance to compete this Saturday.”
With in excess of 150 entries, the championships for 2009 shapes up to be a huge event and many of the entries will be from the Bathurst area.
Riders such as Alan Cox, Michael Dyer, David and Steven McDonald, Greg Lack, Brad Furner, Andrew Wallace, Daniel Flanagan, Mark Young, Vinnie Burt, Martin Murphy, Colin Bennett, and Brad Cady will all be out to impress on what is virtually a home track.
The major sponsor Greg Brabham is also going to be contesting the event.
Apart from the Long Track Championship itself, there are going to be a number of junior and senior classes supporting the event. Riders from around the Bathurst and Cowra areas also competing this weekend in the support categories include Anna and Richard Fitzsimons, Steve Croker, Andrew Smith, Steven Hines, Brent and Angus Doulman, Jaiden Graham, Tom Duggan, Toby Pollard, Tom Scott, Zach and Ben Cook, Larz and Tye Burke, Billy Dawes, Brady Kurtz, Joseph Bugg, Adam Charnock and Isaac Ticehurst.
Long track racing is regarded as one of the most spectacular forms of motorcycle competition and many of the senior riders in the higher powered classes reach speeds of up 150km/h. It is certainly a sensational sight.
Riders will compete in three qualifying heat races, repechage and a final.
In total there is going to be close to $7,000 up for grabs for this year’s event which is scheduled to begin at 9am and go right through to 6pm on Saturday.
