Junior drivers dominated the Bathurst Light Car Club (BLCC) motorkhana conducted at their Quarry Motorsport Park on Sunday, when the the first three outright placings were taken by 16 year old drivers.
Following the excellent form he displayed in winning the recently conducted BLCC khanacross, All Saints' student Jason Newman was always going to be tough to beat in Sunday's event, and it saw him take back-to-back wins in the WRX Subaru and extend his lead in the BLCC Club Championship.
Second to Newman just a week after racing his Mazda RX7 at Eastern Creek Raceway was Brad Shiels in a Suzuki, while third home was reigning BLCC junior champion Robert Andrews in his Toyota powered Datsun Stanza.
First of the lady drivers was defending Ladies Champion Kylie Barling of Orange driving her worked Toyota Corolla, while Sarah Munday was second in a Ford Escort.
Competitors were challenged by five courses, with two runs at each.
They were the Straight Slalom, Open Slalom, Cloverleaf, Hopkirk and the Tee Garage.
The win showed Newman has consistency as well as speed, for he was beaten on three of the courses for fastest time, but still placed second on each course.
In the open Slalom, John Markwick clocked 35.72 in his Nissan Pulsar to set the fastest time. Newman was next best at 36.19. Shiels showed his skills in the Hopkirk with a 42.19.
In the final course, the Tee Garage, the front wheel drive Mini driven by Nathan Stephenson was fastest, (42.88) and Newman second with 43.22.
