Players to decide the grade

06 Nov, 2009 07:19 AM
BLAYNEY will decide whether to push for inclusion in Group 10 premier league next season at a meeting for potential players on November 21.

Blayney Rugby League Club was re-established at a well-attended meeting last week, with the goal of fielding a senior team in Group 10 the focus of the newly-formed committee , a goal that was announced formally to Sunday’s Group 10 annual general meeting.

President Lance Lowe is certain Blayney will field a team in either premier league or first division, but it is yet to be determined which grade the Bears will contest.

Blayney believe they have enough interested players to return to the field in the senior ranks and a meeting of potential players will help the club ascertain what grade they will be best suited.

“The main thought was that we would definitely be able to field a reserve grade side, but some of the committee thought that we may be able to field a first grade side depending on player availability and ability,” Lowe said.

“We’re having a get together on Saturday 21st of November at the Royal Hotel to gauge player interest.”

Lowe revealed some of the players to express an interest in playing for the Bears in 2010 have previous premier league experience, while eight of this year’s under 18s will step up to seniors.

But the president thinks it will be better to contest first division next year and build from there.

Blayney only returned to Group 10 this year after a four year absence when they fielded an under 18s team.

“In my opinion, we’re not ready for premier league this year. I don’t think they (players) will want to play premier league, but we’re leaving that option open until the get together,” Lowe said.

A decision on Blayney’s re-admission to the Group 10 senior ranks will ultimately be made on December 2 at the next Group 10 meeting.

Lowe says Blayney’s rugby league community is excited about the prospect of returning to senior competition and they will do so with the help of funds left over from the former Blayney Rugby League Club, which dissolved following the 2006 Mid West season.
