BATHURST cyclist, UCI contract rider Dean Windsor, will embark on a European campaign over Australia’s winter months which will see him up against some stiff competition.
As many of the sport’s elite prepare for the 2008 version of the Tour de France, they could compete alongside Windsor in races such as the Halle-Ingooigem, which commences on June 25.
This will be Windsor’s second European event following on from the Lede race and it is the traditional preparation event for cycling superstar Tom Boonen’s run into the Tour de France.
However, last week’s news of a positive test for cocaine will probably mean the high flying Belgium sprinter will appear at neither event.
Meanwhile fellow Bathurst cyclist, Credit Agricole’s Mark Renshaw, finished 12 minutes, 37 seconds off the pace in the second stage of the Tour de Suisse as he tries to secure a Tour de France ride.
The tough 197 kilometre stage finished with a tough 11km climb that averaged a 9.5 percent gradient, testing the legs of the field before they crossed the line in Flumersberg.
Victory belonged to Igor Anton Hernandez, who crossed the after five hours, four seconds as he averaged an impressive 39.471km/hr.
With the next two stages of the Swiss event more suited to sprinters, Renshaw is expected to feature more prominently.
