When Chris and Anthony Frisby bought Tulhurst Sky, they purchased the mare to use as a broodmare rather than for her racing ability but in a welcome bonus, the five-year-old has found some very good form.
Tonight she will go around in the $3000 Westco Pace (2130 metres) at Bathurst Paceway and she will be looking for her second win since joining the Frisby stables. After producing just one win and four placings in 33 starts when they purchased him, the Frisbys could have been forgiven for not expecting too much from the Stature x Deep Embrace progeny.
However in seven starts for them since December, she has had a win and three placings and Anthony Frisby said they were delighted.
“We’ve only had her for two or three months but it has gone very well so far,” he said.
“We couldn’t be happier with her. She has been picking up cheques every week and if you had 10 horses in your stable that were doing that, you would be very happy.”
The mare was bred by Kevin and Nathan Hurst and it was late last year that they decided to sell her.
“We were at Eugowra and Nathan Hurst asked if we wanted to buy her. We had bought a few off him before and had some success with them so we bought her too but with the view that she would be a broodmare,” Frisby said.
“She is only racing for a little while and then she will go to the stable.Everything she does before then is a bonus.”
Tonight will see Tulhurst Sky go up against a solid field including Bernie Hewitt’s Son Of Lopez, who is coming back from a spell, Nathan Hurst’s Galactic Eagle, who was in great form at the end of last year.
Frisby believes that his mare has a good chance of taking the win, especially after drawing barrier two.
“I think she will go pretty well. If she can keep her from going from the last couple of races then she is a real chance. The barrier draw is perfect for her, it will allow us to just poke out and see if we can take the lead. If there is a bit of speed outside we might go back a bit.”
Chris Frisby is in Melbourne looking after Uncle Lile, who is contesting the Victoria Derby and Uncle Benjamin, who is promising two-year-old that will also race at Tabcorp Park Melton on Saturday night. Anthony will head down on Saturday to drive Uncle Benjamin. Tonight’s eight race meeting gets underway at 6.12pm.
