Seventy teams attended the carnival from the Central West, Hunter Valley, South West Slopes, New England, North West Plains, Western Districts, Southern Highland Zones and three teams from the Gippsland zone in Victoria.
Raglan Polocrosse Club players, Candice Bourke and Sophie Stuart represented the Central West in the junior division.
Sarah Stuart, Amy Hagney and Ben Hagney competed in the under 21 division and came third in the state. They were defeated by the Hunter Valley and New England zones.
“This was a really great achievement,” said Raglan club member Tony Hagney.
“The club only started up again last year so this is a big plus for our younger players.”
The most successful Central West team was the Men's Masters team (over 40s) which was
defeated in the championship final by Hunter Valley 17-12.
The masters included Peter Hagney, Jamie Simmonds and Tony Hagney. Tony and his horse ‘Initials’ received the award for the best No 3 in this division.
“It came as a really big shock, I really wasn’t expecting to win, especially with us losing the final,” Mr Hagney said.
St Stanislaus’ College student Bryce Mallon and his horse ‘Polly’ represented Western Districts in the junior division and were awarded best No.1.
Raglan Club will be hosting their local carnival on August
28-29.
Mr Hagney encourages anyone who is interested to come down and watch the events, and if interested people are welcome to join the Raglan club.
