They will have no shortage of motivation though as they will race under the banner of the John Maclean Foundation which raises funds for children in wheelchairs.
The eight members of the Bathurst Tri Club will race Ironman Western Australia at Bussleton, taking on a 3.8km ocean swim, 180km bicycle leg before finishing with a gruelling 42.2km marathon run.
Included in the local Team Maclean lineup are Ryan Sargent, Blair Hurst, Richard Hobson, Terry Roberts, Mark Booth, Blair Watson, Martin Barnes and Jody Parker.
It will be the sixth appearance at Ironman WA for 17-time Ironman legend Terry Roberts who takes great pride in racing for the John Maclean Foundation.
“Our mission is to help out a couple of great local kids,” he said yesterday.
“Will Kemp and Harry Clist haven’t had life easy, but these are two young people whose parents are giving them every chance in life despite their disabilities.
“Recognising this, the King Cain Bathurst Wallabies Tri Club have nominated young Will and Harry as their chosen recipients for a fundraising mission as part of the wider John Maclean Family.
“Our aim is to raise $10,000 for each of the boys and our fundraising efforts are already off and racing.”
Bussleton will be the second Ironman triathlon for Ryan Sargent who successfully completed Ironman Australia at Port Macquarie last year.
“We are all pretty excited at what Sunday might bring,” he said. “But better still, we’ll be racing for a reason to help out Harry and Will. If you can help our cause go to http://www.ironmancharitychallenge.com.au/wallabies_4_wheelies and make a pledge.”
