Santa has ditched his sleigh in favour of a sulky, and has been spreading Christmas cheer with his “helpers” Mandy Scott and Belinda Crain.
“We were sitting around one Sunday afternoon and we decided to put the pony in the gig,” Mandy said. “We got some decorations and lollies and the loan of a big bell and took Santa on board.”
The sulky has become a hit on the streets, with children flocking to see Santa and his pony.
“Normally known as Puzzle, my pony has been nicknamed Prancer for the festive season,” Mandy said. “We’ve had an overwhelmingly positive response, with little girls squealing and giggling, and parents thanking us for doing it.
“I’ve been posting our routes and times on my Facebook page, and grandparents have even been getting their grandchildren over to see us.
“On Tuesday night we had 20 children out in Cottonwood Drive.”
Mandy is regularly accompanied by her son Hamish, 6; while Evie, 4, and Logan, 2, are occasional “helpers”.
“I’ve explained to the children that we are doing this to give, not to receive,” Mandy said.
“The response has been so overwhelming that Belinda wants to break in a reindeer for next Christmas.”
