A total fire ban has been declared for the Central Ranges on New Year's Day with temperatures expected to reach between 31 and 37 degrees.

The Lower Central West Plains and Central Ranges will be among parts of the state with a very high fire danger rating.
Under these conditions the Rural Fire Service said fires can be difficult to control and still present a threat to properties. In the event of a fire embers may be blown around homes causing other fires to occur ahead of the main fire.
The Central Ranges covers Bathurst, Blayney, Cabonne, Cowra, Lithgow, Mid Western Regional, Oberon and Orange.
The Lower Central West Plains covers Dubbo, Forbes, Lachlan, Narromine, Parkes, Temora, Weddin and Wellington.
The Greater Hunter and Southern Ranges will also have very high fire danger ratings while Greater Sydney and Illawarra will have severe fire danger ratings.
The Bureau of Meterology is forecasting mostly sunny weather with winds north to northwesterly 15 to 20 km/h turning west to southwesterly 20 to 30 km/h in the morning. Overnight temperatures falling to between 14 and 19 with daytime temperatures reaching 31 to 37.
On a day of Total Fire Ban there is a ban on any fires out in the open.
A gas or electric barbeque is allowed under certain conditions.
