In their match at Morse Park 2, SPOB have kept their finals hopes alive with the thrilling win over Bushrangers who were chasing two victories in a row.
Bushrangers posted 154 in tough batting conditions on day one, led by Sean Munns (34), Michael Woolett and Dan Knox (26 each) and Simon Ross (20), while Derryn Clayton (3-7) and Terry Longmore (2-29) were the multiple wicket-takers for SPOB.
In reply they were reduced to all sorts of trouble at 8-75 before Matt Fearnley (15) posted a 36-run stand with Nathan Down before Down and Aaron Thorn survived some nervous moments to post 38 for the last wicket.
At one point with a few runs to get, Bushrangers shelled a catch which would have won them the points, but Down went on to post 50 and get his side across the line.
New recruit Shawn Edwards claimed 3-30 from 21 overs for Bushrangers while Woolett, Gavin Farrell and Steve Cain finished with two scalps each.
Bushrangers made 0-61 in a brief second innings.
The final game saw bowlers prospering at George Park 1 as Ox-Cents picked up a remarkable outright win over Colts.
Batting first, Ox-Cents managed 148 thanks mainly to Emerson Meehan with 45 along with 19 not out from Troy Bellamy and Nick Loader while Jack Saddler took a classy 5-31 for Colts.
Their reply though fell well short of where it needed to be, and despite Dave Smith (50) and Adam Klower (20) knocking off half their target between them, they were skittled for just 109 as Keeghan Tucker, a prolific representative women’s cricketer, took 3-35 while Meehan bagged 3-17.
More drama was to follow as Ox-Cents collapsed for 82 in their second dig, Pete McCleary’s 33 the only score of substance as Saddler picked up three more as did Chris Duke.
Needing 122 for an outright win, Colts were humbled once more, this time dismissed for just 52, with Smith making 26 of them while Craig Windus took 4-11 for Ox-Cents.
