Three people were trapped in the incident and another four escaped with minor injuries.
Two of the three trapped have been released and emergency services are working on a third person.
The highway now has alternating traffic conditions in place around the accident site.
Motorists are being advised to use the Bells Line of Road or delay travel in the area with significant delays expected.
Emergency services remain on the scene of the accident and Crash Investigation Police are heading to the scene.
It is expected that alternating traffic conditions will remain in place for some time.
