The students competed against eighteen other teams in the literacy quiz. They were asked ten questions in ten different literary categories by the Quiz Master Wayne Mills.
The Macarthur Anglican School team were victorious in the closely fought competition, with only one point separating the top four schools.
They will go on to compete at the Australian final in Canberra on Friday.
Eglinton and the two other schools who tied for 2nd place competed in a tie-breaker round with Eglinton finishing the day in fourth place.
All four members of the Eglinton team were great ambassadors for the school during the event and their achievement showed an obvious love for literature and reading.
Wan’kurra the Golden Bandicoot
A group of year six students at Eglinton Public School participated in providing feedback for children’s author Dianne Lucas during the development and writing of her recently released story Wan’kurra the Golden Bandicoot.
The students were thrilled to receive, a published copy of the story for the school library and to see an acknowledgement in the book recognising the valuable feedback they gave to the author.
The story is a fascinating and informative recount about a collective effort to save an endangered animal, no longer found on the mainland of Australia and restricted to a tiny island in the Wessel Islands off the Northern Territory.
