Staff at Bathurst Base Hospital received their uniforms about three weeks ago.
Western NSW Local Health District director of nursing and midwifery, Joy Adams said Western NSW Local Health District (LHD) is excited to be one of the first LHDs in the state to roll-out new uniforms under the NSW Health Uniform Project.
Ms Adams said the state-wide uniforms will feature NSW Health branding and allow employees to easily transfer between Local Health Districts, eliminating the need to purchase new uniforms with each move.
She said each workstream, including nursing and midwifery, medical, allied health, oral health, scientific and technical support and patient support services will have their own individual colours.
“Colours will be consistent across the state to help make staff in our hospitals easily identifiable for patients,” Ms Adams said.
“Workstream colours will apply to upper garments only. With the exception of those worn by medical staff, all lower garments will be navy.”
In accordance with the state award, employees required to wear a uniform will continue to receive a laundry allowance and will also receive a garment allocation.
Employees will receive a pro-rata number of garments, in line with their contracted hours. For example, a nurse employed on a full-time basis will receive five tops and five bottoms, plus one outerwear garment annually.
Under the new colour coding doctors will be wearing a distinctive emerald green and registered nurses, midwives and enrolled nurses will wear navy blue.
Assistants in nursing will wear light blue, physiotherapists turquoise and patient support staff, such as cleaners and kitchen staff will wear green.
Dental workers will wear all white and administration staff purple.
Staff in management roles are wearing pin stripe white shirts.
