Around 9.30pm fire crews were called to the property after a neighbour saw a lounge chair on fire on the front porch.
The fire spread quickly to the front room of the premises but was quickly extinguished by fire crews.
The unit suffered smoke and water damage.
While the occupant of the premises was away at the time police said the next door neighbour was taken to hospital for observation due to smoke inhalation after she attempted to put the fire out.
There are several small fires in the area over the past couple of weeks, including a vehicle and grass fire.
Police are treating the fire as suspicion.
