THE central west has recorded its coldest temperature for the year this morning, with the mercury dropping as low as -5.0 degrees in parts of the region.

Lithgow and Oberon both recorded temperatures of -5.0 degrees this morning, while in Bathurst the temperature reached -4.8 degrees.
Mudgee also received its coldest temperature for the year with -4.5 degrees, as did Cowra which reached -3.0 and Orange which reached -1.5.
Residents throughout the central west also felt the cold over the weekend with significant temperature drops recorded across the region on Saturday.
Wellington reached it coldest temperature for the year when the mercury dropped to -4.6 degrees on Saturday, as did Dubbo where the temperature dropped to -2.9.
It was a similar story in Parkes and Forbes, where the temperatures dropped to -2.7 and -1.2 degrees respectively.
Although it has been a chilly couple of days, the cold temperatures have fallen short of breaking any July records.
With its temperature of -4.6 degrees, Wellington was the closest to breaking its July record of -5.7 degrees set in 1982.
It was followed by Lithgow with -5.0 this week just short of the -7.0 degrees in 2006.
