Vanessa, now 30, is giving evidence at the inquest Of Jessica Small's abduction and presumed murder, currently underway at Bathurst Court House, before Deputy State Coroner Sharon Freund.
She described Jessica as her best friend.
"We hung out, listened to music and talked about boys, your average teenage stuff," she said.
Vanessa remembered Jessica as "healthy, happy, slim and gorgeous" and gave evidence about what they were doing in the four weeks prior to Jessica's abduction.
She told the inquest she and Jessica were "very tight" and the two confided in each other all the time.
"We told each other everything," she said.
She said on the night Jessica was abducted the two girls had decided to go out to Amuse Me, a games parlour in Russell Street and before lunch spoke about what they were doing in the hours prior to Jessica's abduction.
The inquest resumes at 2pm.
