Maria White gave evidence at the inquest into the presumed murder of Jessica Small currently underway at the Bathurst Court House.
Mrs White, who lived in the double story house adjacent to an empty paddock in Hereford Street in October 1997, told the inquest she had friends over for a BBQ on the night Jessica disappeared.
The guests left at about 12.30pm, but as they were about to leave Mrs White's dog got out and she was worried it would get run over.
While she was trying to catch the pup she saw a car driving up Hereford Street which started to slow down before coming to a stop near the Raglan Creek.
Mrs White said as she caught he dog she noticed the car coming to a stop, but didn't think much of it and went back upstairs into her kitchen began and cleaning up.
As she did so she heard "a really loud high pitched scream."
"Not long after I heard a second scream which sounded very similar," she said.
Mrs White said she asked her husband if their child was watching a horror movie.
"I was concerned that a young child would be watching something with that type of screaming in it," she said.
Mrs White said her husband went into check on her son, who was playing his Gameboy, and she didn't investigate any it further.
Between 15 and 20 minutes later police knocked on her door asking if she had seen or heard anything.
When she told them what she had heard the police told her there was a young girl who had gone to the house next door saying her friend had been abducted.
Mrs White said she told police about the car then.
