Godolphin has yet to win the Melbourne Cup, but its hopes for 2013 success have been boosted with the emergence of promising stayer Royal Empire, who saw off the strong challenge of the 2011 Cup runner up Red Cadeaux in the Group Two Geoffrey Freer Stakes (2600 metres) at Newbury in the early hours of Sunday morning.
