In the lead up to the election we will run a question each day, with the responses we received from candidates.
Each candidate was contacted via phone and email. Their responses are below.
What will be the first thing you do if you are elected?
John Cobb (Nationals)
No response
Billie Kirkland (Katter’s Australian Party)
Say thank you. Meet with other local Government representatives to discuss issues they have found marry them up with plans so we can work together regardless of what party we stand for.
Ian Lyons (Christian Democratic Party – Fred Nile Group)
Put pressure on the Government to maintain current marriage laws and to curtail abortion as much as possible by removing tax payer funding.
Jess Jennings (Labor)
I will jointly initiate a Calare Tourism Summit with all tourism stakeholders across the Central West to identify international branding and marketing opportunities for Calare and the Tourism Summit will be held within 12 months of being elected, plus initiate the development of a Regional Food and Fibre Plan for Calare with stakeholders from the farm level to product manufacturing and marketing (especially export markets).
This Calare plan will compliment the National Food Plan and set Calare up to maximise future funding, marketing and industry development opportunities.
It will also examine threat factors like: how much 'hobby farming' will consume quality productive land in future (based on current trends), and hence enable us to best plan for future agricultural expansion.
Macgregor Ross (Independent)
Go on a ‘whole of electorate’ listening tour
Brian Cain (Palmer United Party)
Call a meeting of all stakeholders within the business community to consult on tax reduction and red tape.
David Mallard (The Greens)
Schedule a mobile office in a town or village within the electorate for every Parliamentary non-sitting week, to ensure I am getting to know each community and hear their concerns.
Then I will get to work standing up against funding cuts from both of the old parties to our universities and to the investments secured by the Greens in the last Parliament in clean energy, technology and biodiversity, which are vital to the future of jobs and wellbeing in this region.
Anthony Craig (Democratic Labour Party)
Hold public forums in each of the towns to address each individual problems from a federal level.
Peter Schultze (Australia First Party)
I will thank the people of Calare for their magnificent support.
I will also thank John Cobb for the good work he has done to date for people in this electorate.
I will thank the people for an opportunity to stand up for our Constitution so that we do not have to put up with Hung Parliament baloney.
I will publicly confirm that I will give every pay rise I get to meet public needs in this community – like Peter Andren would do.
TOMORROW: What will you do for individual towns in your electorate?
