Playmaker Hewitt is a member of the Penrith Panthers’ under 20s line up, while Siejka plies his trade in the second row for the Sydney Roosters.
Those two teams are locked in a battle for second place on the ladder. While the Canberra Raiders will finish as minor premiers, both the Roosters and Panthers have amassed the same amount of competition points.
Hewitt’s Panthers hold the edge based on for and against, but both look in good touch heading into the final round after wins on the weekend.
Siejka and his Roosters had to do it the hard way, coming from behind to down Gold Coast 34-20.
Despite starting as favourites against the 15th placed Titans, the Roosters found themselves trailing 14-0 after 30 minutes.
However, they got on the board shortly before half-time to begin what proved to be a successful comeback.
Siejka, who trained with the Roosters’ NRL squad at the start of 2013, was one of the try scorers for his side.
He ran onto a nicely time short ball to score in the 48th minute and four minutes later his team took a lead that they would not surrender.
The former Bathurst Panther made 94 metres for the match from 11 runs. He also made three offloads and 15 tackles.
Hewitt and his Panthers also put together a strong second half as they beat the Bulldogs 46-22.
With both set to be part of the 2013 finals series, the game at ANZ Stadium was expected to be hotly contested and the first half did not disappoint.
Panthers scored the opening try and at one stage led 16-6, but the Bulldogs fought back to be on level terms at the break.
The Bulldogs had gone into the match with a one-point advantage over the Panthers on the ladder and they were keen to extend that margin. That didn’t happen.
In the second stanza Hewitt and his team-mates unleashed as they piled on 30 points to take the win and leapfrog their rivals into second on the ladder.
Five-eighth Hewitt made 65m from seven runs and his five kicks earned the men in black 165m. He also made 17 tackles.
The Panthers will take on Manly – a team currently occupying last on the ladder – in their final round match, while the Roosters face the currently seventh-placed Rabbitohs.
