The 29-year-old had unsuccessfully applied three times for release, before the State Parole Authority on Thursday finally granted parole, with him to be released later this month on a lengthy list of conditions.

But just hours later, NSW police released notification that two of Sanoussi's brothers, a cousin and another man had been charged over an assault on Wednesday.

The State Parole Authority released a statement on Friday overturning their decision to release Sanoussi because his ‘‘intended post-release accommodation was unsuitable’’.

Under the conditions of his release, Sanoussi was to live at the same address as the two brothers who were arrested.

‘‘[The authority] considers the revocation to be in the public interest,’’ its statement read.

A public hearing to review Sanoussi’s parole revocation will be held on September 19 during which the authority can consider further submissions.

Attorney-General Greg Smith ordered a review of the decision to grant parole following news of the assault which allegedly took place at a smash repair business on The River Road, Revesby about 11.15am on Wednesday, against a 47-year-old man working as a cleaner.

The four men, all in a Mitsubishi Lancer, verbally abused the cleaner, before stopping at a nearby petrol station.

Three of the men ran from the car, allegedly assaulting the cleaner while threatening him with a knife.

It's further alleged that the trio hit him with both a safety cone and his broom, causing him to fall to the ground before repeatedly punching him to his face and body.

Two off-duty police officers witnessed the incident and ran to the man's aid.

The men fled in the Lancer, while the injured man was taken to Bankstown hospital for treatment.

He sustained cuts and bruises to his face and jaw, and a wrist injury.

Bankstown police arrested three men at a home in Tempe Street, Greenacre about 7pm - the same address Mohamed Sanoussi had been granted parole to live.

A fourth man was arrested about 10pm.

The men, aged 28, 30 and 31, were charged with a number of offences including assault occasioning actual bodily harm, intimidating a police officer in execution of duty, threatening to destroy or damage another person's property and affray.

They all faced Bankstown Local Court on Thursday.

Sanoussi's parole hearing had earlier this month been told that he had connections to the criminal gang Brothers for Life, which police believe a number of his relatives belong to.

In granting parole, the parole authority made it a condition he have nothing to do with members of Brothers for Life.

It's unclear how or why news of the brothers' arrest had not been passed to the parole authority before their decision on Thursday.
