Drive-in movies have been added to an action-packed line-up of events, both on and off the track, for the 2013 Bathurst 1000.
Bathurst Regional Council has worked hard to secure the Sunset Cinema Drive-In for two nights at Bathurst Showground and it is expected to be well-received.
In keeping with the theme of fast cars, The Fast And The Furious 6 will be screened on the Friday night, and the family friendly movie Despicable Me 2 will be shown on the Saturday.
Several hundred cars are expected to fit into the showground and audio will be broadcast via radio frequency so the audience can hear the movie through their car speakers.
Bathurst mayor Monica Morse has welcomed the drive-in cinema, saying it will add to the atmosphere of this very special week for Bathurst.
“I think this is a fantastic event. It’s a lovely addition to the off-track entertainment and I expect it will be very popular,” she said.
“A lot of people have great memories of going to the drive-in, so this is a great way to relive that, and the best part is it isn’t expensive. It’s only $5 per car, so it is great value.”
The temporary cinema joins a long list of off-track events that will start with the traditional transporter parade and autograph session in Kings Parade on Wednesday, October 9, and a harness racing meeting on Wednesday night that will allow free entry to people who present their Bathurst 1000 ticket.
A Legendary Moments Dinner will be held at Rydges Mount Panorama on Thursday night, where Bathurst legends John Bowe and Tony Longhurst will talk about some of the memorable moments the Great Race has produced.
The V8 Race Ball will take place on the Friday night at Bathurst Memorial Entertainment Centre, while the Street Fair will be held in Kings Parade on the Saturday afternoon, and there is a focus on having more stores this year.
