Joshua Alexandra Hugo Yarza, 21, of Horsely Park was charged with the matter which went before Bathurst Local Court magistrate Michael Allen.
Police facts tendered to the court told how on July 21 this year, Yarza was on his way to Bathurst Correctional Centre, driving in a Toyota Tarago with three other males.
The vehicle was parked in the carpark of Bathurst Correctional Centre.
Yarza got out of the car and attended the visits area of the centre while the three passengers remained in the car.
On his way to the visits area, Yarza was stopped by corrective services officers and returned to his vehicle in the carpark. An officer from corrective services approached the car and asked Yarza if he had anything to declare.
One male in the car produced tissue paper which contained green vegetable matter. Yarza claimed ownership of the drugs and police were called. They weighed the green vegetable matter, which weighed 3.5 grams.
Yarza made full admissions to the item, telling police it was cannabis.
Mr Allen convicted Yarza, fining him $200.
He also ordered the drugs to be destroyed.
