BRE&D Week kicks off tonight when ‘The First Supper’ launches the first of several food and wine-inspired special events.
The event is billed as Bathurst’s very own food and wine week and culminates on Friday night with the National Cool Climate Wine Show public tasting at the Bathurst Showground.
According to Donald Alexander from BRE&D Week, the initiative is spearheaded by the local vignerons’ association and made up of passionate locals, chefs, hospitality workers, growers and producers.
“BRE&D Week aims to increase our awareness of local produce and what the Bathurst region has to offer, and showcase Bathurst
as a food and wine destination,” Mr Alexander said.
“Events organised encourage both locals and visitors to experience the unique eats, drinks and essence of the Bathurst region and is the ideal time to experience the region at its very best.
“The First Supper will be hosted at the Flannery Centre and features a rustic feast of regional food paired with carefully selected wines from both Australia and overseas.”
CSU’s Brett Russell will be involved in the food preparation for the First Supper, and will be assisted by local TAFE and CSU students.
The dinner will also be host to special guests including Kim Currie, well-known regional foodie , as well as David Lowe of Lowes Wines and leading NSW wine industry executive and wine judge Tim Knappstein.
Mr Knappstein is also the chief judge for the National Cool Climate Wine Show which is being held at the same time in Bathurst.
Bookings for the First Supper are essential and are $120 per person. Call the Bathurst Visitor Information Centre on 6332 1444.
