Of the 42 students sitting their HSC exams at The Scots School, 18 students completed the mathematics exam, 20 students sat the general mathematics exam and one student sat the mathematics extension 2 exam.
Year 12 student Tim Burrey said he was glad the exam was over.
“It was harder than I thought it was going to be, but it wasn’t anything too outrageous,” he said.
Classmate Calhan Behrendt said he found the exam quite difficult.
“I’m not great at maths, it’s not really a secret, but I thought it was really hard. It was definitely not fun,” he said.
“Maths was the first one which was a bit stressful just because it was extremely difficult, but most of us have done a lot of preparation so it’s been OK.”
Calhan, who has attended The Scots School since kindergarten, said he had mixed emotions about finishing school.
“I’m a little bit sad that it’s all over and we’re all leaving and going our own separate ways, but on the other hand I’m really excited that it is over.”
Student Laura Wright, who has attended the school since pre-prep, said she also had mixed emotions about finishing school.
“I’m kind of relieved, but kind of sad at the same time. I guess I don’t know what to feel,” she said.
Laura said she was happy to have her general mathematics exam finished.
“This is my third one and then I’ve got three to go. The exams have been going pretty good, though, much better than I thought they would be.”
Head of mathematics Nick Dawes said the exam had tested the students, but been a fair examination. He said the school had a history of high HSC maths results.
“They’ve been a very diligent year group, they’ve done good preparation, so I’m looking forward to good results,” he said.
