For years, the local Rural Fire Service has been wishing for a hose drying pole to make their job a little bit easier.
This week’s demolition of the former Bathurst fire station in George Street – combined with some word-of-mouth lobbying from Peter Ward from the Enacon Group – resulted in this wish coming true.
Perthville/Georges Plains RFS captain Col Humphries was at the brigade’s headquarters yesterday morning as the Enacon team moved in to install the pole.
“It was just one of things that happened,” Mr Humphries said.
“I mentioned that we’d really been hoping to put a drying pole in because, at present, we have hang the hoses from the rafters in our shed and that was dangerous and a real struggle for our crew.
“Peter found out and the next thing we knew, he’s struck a deal with Jim Clarke – whose boys are demolishing the old Bathurst fire station – to snare their old pole for our brigade.
“Enacon donated their services – one of their specialities is erecting power poles – and the rest is history. We got our wish and we can’t thank them enough.
“With summer just around the corner, we are sure the new addition to our headquarters will make life much easier for us.”
Mr Ward said he heard about the brigade’s desire to get a drying pole and realised Enacon could help.
“We do a lot of rural work and thought this would be a way of giving something back to the community,” he said. “It’s a small job for us, but one that the RFS members at Perthville really appreciate.”
