Over the past 24 hours Bathurst residents have flooded social media with complaints about dirty water pouring from taps across the city.
One reader has described it as the "dirtiest I've ever seen it".
A spokesperson for Bathurst Regional Council has been responding to complaints online saying council has mobilised work crews to address the issue and is working as quickly as possible to clear the mains and restore the clear water.
"Customers can assist by providing location details to council on 6333 6100 or our after hours number 6334 2795," the spokesperson said.
The discoloured water in hot weather is caused by manganese. Bathurst Regional Council is about to embark on a multi-million dollar upgrade of the water treatment plant at Gormans Hill to, hopefully, fix the problem.
Above is a selection of photos that have been published online and submitted to the Western Advocate.
